June 28 - Meeting up with relatives halfway round the world
PLEASE NOTE: I have not had the chance to watermark all of my photos, and it will take me a great deal of time, as I published this and my other blogs between 2010-2017. I ask you to respect my property. Feel free to use them as long as you credit me as follows: Photo by Jody McBrien, learningtheworld.org. Thank you.
Today Dick and I caught trains back to Kamakura. My brother-in-law Jeff Horner flew to Japan to see his son Thomas, his wife Nancy, and their daughter Morgan. Thomas is stationed here for three years. It is pretty interesting to see someone we typically meet up with in St. Pete Fl here in Japan!
After grabbing something quick to eat, we walked to Hokoku-ji Temple, a Rinzai Buddhist temple which has a small but dense bamboo grove of about 2,000 trees. It was a little drizzly out, so not too crowded. I love bamboo, and all those trees made me feel peaceful.
After that, we walked to the main temple in Kamakura, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu. It is at the head of a main street that is lined with cherry trees, about 10 minutes' walk from the main train station. There were some beautiful lotus in a large pond there.
Finally, we walked down the pedestrian shopping street. Nancy, Morgan, and I each bought an umbrella.
We parted after that. The fun day went so fast! Dick and I went back to our Mets Ofuna Hotel - very convenient to the Ofuna station, with a room larger than a typical Japanese economy room. But it was tough to find a place to eat, as we could find no where with any English in Ofuna!
NOTE: June 2018 date on post is republish date, not date of the event.
